Have you ever thought about what thoughts are?

It is hard for our “old mind” to understand the nature of a thought, because a thought is not physical. Our egos work very hard all day long to keep us grounded in the physical world.

Instead of trying to “visualize” what a thought should look like, for the old mind or ego has to analyze everything including thoughts as something that can be explained by physical science, let’s just discuss the characteristics of a thought instead.

Thoughts last forever. Can you think of anything in the physical world that lasts forever? Even the solar system will eventually be swallowed up by the dying star we call the sun. If a thought lasts forever, can it be from the physical universe? Or must it be generated from outside the place and time where nothing lasts?

Thoughts never change. Can you think of anything in the physical world that never changes? Heck, your body isn’t the same as it was when you started reading this post! Cells are dividing, repairing, being replaced, all throughout your body all the time. The cloud above your location moved quite a distance in the last five minutes. See what I mean? If a thought never changes, it may be “not of this world.”

Thoughts are there whether you remember them or not. Uh-oh, now we are getting deeper into theoretical physics all of a sudden. Are physical things there whether you remember them or not? Remember the dual slit experiment? Are those electrons particles or waves? It depends whether they are being observed, or maybe remembered.

I will let you ponder this last thought during the start of this workweek. It makes for an interesting ride to work!
