Ah, the Break Even Point! One of the basic lessons in Accounting 1. The problem is, too many new business-starters get dreamy-eyed with the love of being in business and they overlook some important basic laws of numbers.
Put simply, the Break Even Point is the number of sales required to overcome overhead and other costs to the point where net profit is zero, but so is net loss zero.
No new business, especially one never tested by you before, should ever be christened until the calculations have been made as to what price and what volume of sales will be required at some time in the not too distant future for the overhead expenses to be overcome and any initial losses be put to rest forever!
You would be surprised how many intelligent adults lose their good judgement when they decide they want to start a business. They start it without doing the basic homework to be certain they at least have a CHANCE of survival.
