No matter what you may remember about Martin Luther King Jr, what comes first to my mind is his commitment to “Peaceful Protest.”
I do not want to stray into politics, but “Peaceful Protest” is becoming a rare event, not that protests always turn violent, but this government really doesn’t encourage ANY peaceful assembly.
I think Dr King did a good job of promoting peaceful things when the odds and basically everything was against him. We all know he was not treated peacefully in the end.
I choose to honor his legacy (resurrection) rather than dwell on who killed him (crucifixion) and I think this holiday should serve as a reminder that we are all indebted to those who promote peace.
