I will always remember the seminar I attended with Denis Reggie, the pre-eminent wedding photographer of the late 1980′s. I am not sure what he is doing today, but he pretty much “invented” the wedding style of the journalistic wedding photo. I always enjoyed his images.
But the thing I remember most from his seminar and something that applies to every service business is when he pointed out that if everyone who contacts you for a quote for what your services will cost wants to hire you, you are underpriced and too cheap.
Reggie went on to say that one of every three potential clients should say “NO” solely based on your price.
Think about it…if your service is priced so everyone wants to hire you, how in the world will you ever be able to take care of seven billion people? I will talk more about pricing and raising prices in a future post, stay tuned!
